Youth pleads guilty to stealing cash from mosque

The 20-year-old is said to have made off with RM6,000 from three donation boxes.

An unemployed youth pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court today to stealing cash from donation boxes at a mosque here earlier this month.

Mohammad Iqmal Khalid, 20, from Kampung Rungkup Kecil, Bagan Datuk, admitted to using bolt cutters to steal RM6,000 from three donation boxes at Masjid Jamek Pekan Hutan Melintang at 5.40am on March 6.

He was charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum imprisonment of 14 years and a fine upon conviction.

Magistrate Norita Mohd Ardani fixed April 17 for sentencing, pending a report from the Social Welfare Department as the accused is a minor.

Prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Suffian Ja’afar while Mohammad Iqmal was unrepresented.
