SHAH ALAM: PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali says he is still open to discussions with PAS, even though two Penang PAS divisions want to sever all ties with his party.

Azmin added that it was up to PAS’ top leadership to accept the motions from the Permatang Pauh and Bayan Baru PAS divisions to cut ties with PKR.

“We will leave it to the wisdom of PAS and its leaders to decide (on cutting ties with PKR). For PKR, we want to work with all progressive parties which are committed to change. PKR’s stand doesn’t change.”

Yesterday, Permatang Pauh PAS division chief Omar Hassan accused PKR of trying to affect support for PAS among Malay-Muslim voters in the constituency ahead of the next general election (GE14).

Meanwhile, Bayan Baru PAS division chief Iszuree Ibrahim accused PKR of disrespecting PAS when the two parties were part of the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat coalition, and of openly interfering in the Penang Fatwa Committee’s decisions, among other things.

“PKR had never cut ties with any party and maintain that they want to ensure one-to-one fights against Barisan Nasional in GE14.

“We will take note of PAS’ stand on the matter at their annual muktamar next month,” Azmin told reporters here today.

Azmin, who is also Selangor menteri besar, said PKR had no issues working with PAS in Selangor. He commended PAS’ cooperation in the state, where Amanah, DAP and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia also have a presence.

“Selangor PAS has also issued statements in the past, defending our shared agenda for the state, and in exco meetings, PAS excos have also defended Selangor government policies.

“I don’t have a problem, you can also attend our next exco meeting. They (PAS excos) are always present to support the state government, and we also expect that Selangor PAS will defend the cooperation that has existed all this while.”

There are three PAS excos in the Selangor government – Iskandar Samad, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi and Zaidy Abdul Talib.
