But that’s exactly what Abdul Razak chose to organise when his son got hitched on Sunday.
According to China Press, Abdul Razak, who is a religious leader in Tampin, Malacca approached the Cheng Leong Keng temple committee and asked if they would agree to perform a lion dance – a common sight during Chinese New Year – at the mosque grounds where the wedding was taking place.
The mosque is located just opposite the temple.
As it turned out, the ear-splitting and captivating lion dance performance added an air of excitement to the already joyous occasion, with some children thrilled at the prospect of snapping pictures with the colourful lions.
President of the temple committee Wong Hian Chuan, who also led the performance, said this was the first time his lion dance troupe had been invited to grace a wedding, and a Malay one at that.
This, he said, was proof that the Malay community were not extreme as they were sometimes made out to be.
“The extremists are the irresponsible ones and certain politicians who are only intent on pushing their own agenda,” the Chinese daily quoted him as saying.
