Penang police chief Chuah Ghee Lye said he was not sure when the results would return from the Chemistry Department but police would charge the teenager in court as soon as they did.
The teenager is Ng Pei Ven, 19, who crashed into nine vehicles while driving on the wrong side against oncoming traffic on the North-South Expressway near Butterworth on Tuesday. She hit nine vehicles and a 26-year-old man was killed as a result.
Earlier today, based on the results of a urine test, Ng was charged with consuming illegal drugs, namely amphetamines. She pleaded not guilty and posted bail. She is to report to the Bukit Mertajam police headquarters every week.
“Police have completed the investigation into the accident and submitted the papers to the deputy public prosecutor’s office.
“We are waiting for the blood alcohol content result. I do not know when it will be out so I cannot comment on how soon we will get it.
“As for the teen out on bail, I advise her to report to the police station weekly as mandated by the court or else we will go looking for her,” Chuah told reporters after opening the Penang CPO’s Futsal Tourney at Safira Club in Seberang Jaya here today.
He said he was unaware that her driving licence had been suspended, as reported today on MySinchew, quoting Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai.
“You will have to refer to the minister himself. It (the suspension) has to go through not just the Road Transport Act 1987 but other traffic rules promulgated in the act,” Chuah said.
Meanwhile, Chuah told Malaysians to refrain from insulting the police or the judiciary on the internet over the case, which had received wide public interest.
A netizen had commented that the Ng’s bail had been “too low”.
Chuah said: “Who are we to decide on the bail amount? It is up to the magistrate and the courts.
“I would like to advise all to be patient and not make knee-jerk comments that may be defamatory to the police or the judiciary.
“Please make objective comments based on true facts and reports before you ‘viral’ stories on this issue.
“Don’t try to be a hero.”
