PETALING JAYA:
Ridzuan Hamid, a popular singer in the local music scene, passed away this morning from a heart attack. He was 44.

According to a report in The Star, his friend and fellow musician Gerard Singh, said Ridzuan had been in hospital since Tuesday. Ridzuan leaves behind a wife and daughter.

Ridzuan, who goes by the stage name One, hit the heights of popularity in the 1990s, with his rock band Lost Souls.

In 1994, Lost Souls signed up with local label Valentine Sound Productions and released a remake of the classic Bread song, Everything I Own, which at the time had received wide airplay on local radio.

The success of the band’s first album and their first song brought them further limelight with Lost Souls opening for Bon Jovi in the US rock band’s first concert in the country in 1995. More than 50,000 attended the concert held at the Stadium Shah Alam.

In recent years, however, One had been actively performing at various night spots around the country with his new band, The Union, playing mostly hits from the 1980s.
