KUANTAN: A man had to endure pain for more than 36 hours after being bitten by a snake while climbing up Gunung Semangkuk near Fraser’s Hill, Raub, with two friends last Saturday.

Bakhtiar Itam Shamsudin, 44, claimed to have been bitten by a snake at about 10pm on Saturday and the rescue team only managed to take him out for treatment yesterday due to the dense fog that made rescue efforts impossible.

Head of Zone 3 of the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department, Superintendent Shahrulnizam Nasir said they received a distress call at 10.24am on Sunday, about 12 hours after the incident.

“A rescue team was deployed and it took them between 12 and 14 hours to get to the location,” he told Bernama last night.

Shahrulnizam said the victim was flown out with two friends at about 10.45am today by a helicopter.

He said Bakhtiar was sent to Sungai Buloh Hospital, Selangor, and is reported to be in a stable condition.
