SEREMBAN: Police yesterday confirmed a detainee escaped while under detention at the Seremban Court lock-up Thursday afternoon, after news of the case spread widely via WhatsApp.
Seremban police chief ACP Thiew Hock Poh said the case was being investigated under Section 223/224 of the Penal Code.
It was learnt the detainee was in court to attend trial.
He is believed to have switched from a lock-up uniform to his own clothes before slipping out of the courts complex lock-up here.
Thiew said P Devaraajan, 29, made good his escape when the police escorts were busy handling several other detainees to be taken out at 2.40pm.
Earlier, the suspect was temporarily placed together with several other detainees in the same cell.
Police have launched a manhunt for the theft suspect.
