“WFP confirms that two WFP staff of Malaysian nationality have left DPR Korea and arrived in Beijing today,” said WFP spokesperson Frances Kennedy.
The two, Stella Lim and Nyanaprakash Muniandy, were among 11 Malaysians barred from leaving the country amid mounting diplomatic tensions between Putrajaya and Pyongyang.
This comes as Malaysia is said to have softened its approach in dealing with the communist regime.
Both governments clashed this week after declaring each other’s ambassadors as persona non grata.
The move followed a three-week standoff since the death of Kim Jong Nam, the half brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The North Korean embassy in Kuala Lumpur has refused to cooperate with Malaysian police investigating his death, while Pyongyang has rejected allegations that it had a hand in the attack on Jong Nam at klia2 on Feb 13.
