Soon Cai Ling, 23, received RM2,000 and a certificate of appreciation from Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for her logo that featured the words “I Love Penang” next to a red heart featuring the iconic Penang Bridge and Komtar building.

State executive councillor Chow Kon Yeow, said 188 contestants submitted their entries within just two weeks of the contest launch. The winners were decided by a three-member panel made up of state officials.
He said although the winning logos would be used on banners and bumper stickers, it would not be regarded as the official logo of the “I Love Penang” campaign.

“We will use the official logo by the Penang government,” Chow said at a press conference in Komtar today.
Second prize winner of the contest was Yip Haw Yee, 31, who walked away with RM1,500 while third place went to Lee Yin Pin, 25. Heng Yi Min, 23, received a consolation prize.
As an extension of the “I Love Penang” campaign, a fun run is scheduled for this Sunday and so far 10,000 participants have already signed-up, said Lim.

The campaign was mooted by Lim in retaliation to a proposal by a Federal minister that Penang Island be made a Federal Territory.
At the same time, Gerakan launched a logo contest of their own, calling it “Love and Save Penang” to create awareness about the excessive development and erosion of the environment in the state.
Both logo contests ended on Mar 2.
