PETALING JAYA:
The Perlis Immigration Department has dismissed as false the viral news that the Padang Besar border checkpoint will be open 24 hours.

Perlis Immigration director Mohd Amir Othman told Bernama today that the information going around was not true.

The border crossing, which is the main entry point to Thailand, is open from 6am to 10pm daily. The other border checkpoint in Wang Kelian, also in Perlis, is open from 7am to 7pm daily.

Quoting sources, Sin Chew Daily had today reported that the Cabinet had approved a move to keep the Bukit Kayu Hitam border crossing in Kedah open around the clock.

“At the latest, it will start in July,” one source said.

However, whether this was true could not be ascertained

A local tour operator interviewed by the Chinese daily said he had heard about the move but that “it is just a rumour we hear yearly”.
