KUALA LUMPUR:
A security guard was sentenced to six years’ jail and one stroke of the cane by the Selayang Sessions Court here today for attempting to commit sodomy on his colleague’s 13-year-old son last month.

Judge Zarifah Zainal Abidin handed down the sentence after Shamizal Shamsuddin, 32, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at a riverbank in Batu Caves here, at 1pm on Feb 26.

The court also ordered the unmarried man to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on Feb 26.

Shamizal was charged under Section 377C of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years, and whipping, upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, the security guard, who had just joined the company where the victim’s mother works, had taken the boy to the river and asked him to take off his pants.

The accused also threatened to hit the boy if the latter dared to tell his family about the incident, but the boy immediately told his mother, who later lodged a police report.
