
Now, she says she wants to become a teacher to help other students like her.
“I do not want to study abroad because I love Malaysia. I want to study in the country and then become a special education teacher,” she told reporters here today.
The SMK (P) St George student scored a cumulative grade point average of 3.84 in the STPM examination last year.
Chew, 21, has had serious vision problems since childhood. She said her results were unexpected as the learning process was very complicated.
“I wanted to give up at one stage but decided to persevere and give it my best shot,” said Chew, the daughter of a lorry driver and housewife.
Chew sat for four subjects: General Paper (A-), History (A), Economics (A) and Business Studies (A-).
She loves reading but found it hard to get hold of books written in Braille in the local market.
However, Chew was lucky because family members, friends and teachers were always happy to read to her.
“Sometimes I use a scanner, but it requires a lot of editing because of the many mistakes,” she said.
