Johor MACC director Azmi Alias, when contacted, said the four men were released on MACC bail of RM10,000 each at the Johor MACC office at about 2pm.
They had been in remand since Feb 21. The remand order expired today.
Azmi declined to comment on the case as the investigation is ongoing.
On Feb 20, MACC detained two senior officers from the religious department, aged 55 and 40, when they arrived to give their statements.
They were alleged to have abused their positions by approving permits to organise Islamic pre-marriage courses without going through proper procedures.
The two were believed to have approved the permits for the courses through a welfare and sports body set up by the department’s shariah law division.
The course payments, amounting to RM130,000, were deposited into the account of the welfare body. The money was later used by its members for umrah, overseas trips and other personal activities.
Two senior Johor Bahru District Religious Education officers were also detained by MACC on the same day for allegedly accepting bribes from a printing company to print books for state religious schools.
The two men, aged 45 and 55, were believed to have accepted bribes from the printing company since 2015 in return for the book printing projects, worth about RM5 million.
