This was revealed by lawyer Alex De Silva, representing the teenager and his father, after case management in chambers before Judicial Commissioner Mohd Firuz Jaffril today.

De Silva said both parties (plaintiffs and defendants) agreed to settle the case today. The settlement agreement was later recorded by the court.

However, the terms of the settlement were not disclosed to the media.

Present during the proceeding was senior federal counsel Zureen Elina Mohd Dom, who represented the teacher and five other defendants in the suit.

Besides the teacher, also named as defendants were the Malaysian government, the education minister, education director-general, the Kuala Lumpur education department director as well as the principal of the school concerned.

The teenager, who is now aged 19, and his father filed the suit on April 13, 2015, following an incident during an extra-curricular activity at school which left the boy injured.

The plaintiffs claimed that in the incident, which took place on April 4, 2012, the teacher had poured an inflammable liquid, believed to be turpentine, into a fire with the intention to cook food.

However in doing so, some of the liquid splashed onto the boy, who was nearby.

As a result, the boy, who was then in Form Three, sustained injuries to the face, hands, abdomen and thighs.
