KUALA LUMPUR:
Not all publicity is good, and South Koreans working in Malaysia are finding this out.

South Korean businesses here have been receiving media attention in the wake of the murder of Kim Jong Nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

But they don’t want the publicity, preferring to be left alone to do their business.

According to a report in The Star, business operators at the South Korean enclave of Solaris Mont Kiara have found themselves under the glare of the foreign media.

Most of them, the report said, were fed up about being asked their view on the murder.

The manager of a South Korean mini-mart told The Star members of the foreign press, including their compatriots and the Japanese, had visited the area to get feedback but had been turned away.

A restaurant owner, Shim, 35, said Jong Nam’s death had no impact on the South Korean community here.

Former president of the Korean Association in Malaysia Bryce Kwon said the South Korean community was not worried about a possible backlash from the murder.

“We feel safe in Malaysia. There is nothing for us to worry about,” he told The Star.
