LUNDU:
Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi was the first off to bat when DAP was plunged into a crisis today with three of its state reps and one MP quitting the party.

According to Bernama, he told reporters in this town near Kuching: “We hope the people can judge for themselves about what is going on among them, and their performance as elected representatives, who can only crow cleverly but cannot provide effective services.”

It was reported that four DAP leaders today announced their decision to leave the party, claiming to have lost confidence in party leader Lim Guan Eng.

The four are Kota Melaka MP Sim Tong Him, Bachang assemblyman Lim Jak Wong, Kesidang assemblyman Chin Choon Seong and Duyong assemblyman Goh Leong San.

Sim and Goh had been suspended by DAP since February last year for smearing the party name through a lawsuit against a fellow party member.

The four have said that while they have no plans to join any other party, they will continue serving their respective constituencies as independents. They also did not rule out contesting in the next general election as independent candidates.

Zahid was quick to pounce on the crisis and said the actions of the four are a manifestation of internal problems and crisis of confidence being faced by the opposition party.

He said: “We know the conspiracy through this temporary political marriage… the people must understand it.”

He was speaking to reporters after attending a gathering with Rela volunteers at Lundu Community Hall about 80km from Kuching City here today.

Meanwhile, one of those who quit DAP was reported by New Straits Times to have written to party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

NST quoted the letter as saying: “After due consideration and serious thought, with much regret, I have lost confidence and am greatly disappointed with (Lim Guan Eng) and (his) national leadership in handling both internal and external party issues.

“I also (cannot) accept and go along with the stand and so-called new political alignment the DAP has taken lately.”

He and the other three made their quit announcement at the Kota Melaka service centre in Kota Laksamana, Malacca.

Sim claimed DAP’s goals are nothing like what they were when the party was formed.
