Tunku Ismail attends state-level Thaipusam celebration

The royal family spends an hour and has lunch at the event at the Masai temple.

JOHOR BAHRU: The Tunku Mahkota of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim today attended a 2017 state-level Thaipusam celebration at the Sri Subramaniar Paribalana Saba Temple in Masai here.

Present at the event were his wife, Che’ Puan Khaleeda Bustamam, and daughter Tunku Kalsom Aminah Sofiah. They arrived at 12.30pm and were received by 15,000 Hindus present.

Present were Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin, state Unity and Human Resources Committee chairman R Vidyananthan and Sri Subramaniar Paribalana Saba Temple chairman M Elan Ko.

The royal family spent about an hour and had lunch at the event, which also witnessed cultural performances.

During the ceremony, Tunku Ismail also witnessed the handing over of a replica cheque of RM150,000 for the Sri Subramaniar Paribalana Saba Temple Trust Fund to Elan Ko.

On the fund, Vidyanathan said it was an initiative of Elan Ko and his family and friends in an effort to help in the welfare, education and health of the needy.

The Sri Subramaniar Paribalana Saba Temple was built in 1968, he said.
