AMPANG:
Controversial politician Jamal Yunos today said he would let state Umno liaison chief Noh Omar and other leaders in the party decide his fate in Umno.

Yesterday, he had expressed his intention to let go of his posts as Sungai Besar Umno division chief and also Sungai Besar BN chairman after his release from police custody at the Ampang Jaya police headquarters.

He said the decision was made because he did not want the incident to tarnish the party’s good name.

Jamal also expressed his intention to let go of all his positions in NGOs, including the Red Shirts movement.

Jamal was released yesterday after spending five days in the lock-up to assist police investigations into a gang robbery case.

This came after he and his supporters raided “gambling outlets” to expose the state government’s alleged failure to act against such “illegal” activities.

His supporters, comprising Sungai Besar Umno members, interrupted the press conference several times shouting their support for Jamal.

“This is about pride… I love Umno and I’m willing to make sacrifices,” said Jamal.

He said the resignation letter will be handed to Noh tomorrow.

Admitting that their way of “raiding” gambling premises was against the law, Jamal stressed that it was his moral duty as a community leader to expose such “illegal” activities.

Jamal, who was touched by the support he received, claimed 28 new licences had been issued by the local authorities in Selangor to family entertainment outlet operators since Dec 29.

He said there were 7,000 family entertainment outlets in Selangor but many of these licences were used to operate gambling dens.

“Only two states — Selangor and Penang — are doing this,” referring to these licences.

The businessman has attracted much attention with his antics in recent months.

Jamal, as the leader of the Red Shirts movement organised a counter rally against Bersih 2.0.

Recently he placed 10 beds outside the Selangor secretariat building after he claimed massage parlours had mushroomed everywhere.

In December last year, Jamal, clad only in a towel, stood outside the Selangor administration building in Shah Alam to protest widespread water disruption.

He had also questioned the wealth of PKR Ampang youth leader Adam Rosly, taking the media on a helicopter ride to check out a bungalow which he claimed was owned by Adam.
