It will start its general election campaign next month and now that it's the government, it's moved its call from 'change' to 'delivering the goods'.

GEORGE TOWN:
With the general election looming and widely expected for October after the feel-good events of the Sea Games and Merdeka Day, the Penang DAP is planning a head start and launching its election campaign on March 18.

Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the party machinery campaign would work around the theme, “Delivering Penang’s Future” (Menjamin Masa Depan Pulau Pinang).

“In the last two polls, the theme called for change. This time, we want to look forward into the future, to deliver what the people want.

“The new theme is the renewal of our promise to you, to stay with you no matter what the circumstances, to serve you and to protect your future against kleptocrats,” he said at the Penang DAP Chinese New Year at Shang Wu primary school.

Chow said he hoped the Pakatan Harapan coalition would also use this theme proposed by DAP.

He said that with the next polls coming anytime in the following months or next year, the party wanted to alert the people to its plan to win a new mandate to govern Penang for a third term together with its Pakatan Harapan partners.

“From March 18 on, we will start our campaign to face the next polls. There is a lot of work to be done.

“I hope everyone in the party leadership, from the central to the branch levels, will do his or her part to ensure our return for another term.”

The opposition coalition won strong support in Penang in the 2013 general election. Out of 40 state seats, Pakatan won 30.

Of those 30, DAP won 19, while partner PKR won 10. PAS won one seat while Barisan Nasional’s Umno won 10.
