MPK communication director Norfiza Mahfiz, in a statement, said the shrine, which resembles a mosque with a green dome and a crescent moon on top, was removed because it was built illegally on government land and the road reserve area.
“We had issued a notice to the owner on Jan 24 that the structure must be removed by Jan 27.
“However, the owner had promised to remove the shrine after Chinese New Year, but had failed to do so.”
The shrine had received brickbats online for having a dome reminiscent of a mosque.
Klang district officer Mohd Zainal Mohd Nor had reportedly said the owner had violated Section 425 and 426A(1)(c) of the National Land Code for unlawful occupation of state land.
Norfiza said personnel from the Land and Mines Office, together with MPK staff, carried out the demolition.
“The demolition was carried under the Drainage and Building Act for building a structure on government land.”
The demolition of the yellow-coloured shrine was carried out also in the presence of the police and personnel from the Selangor State Islamic Department (Jais).
