Hairuddin Omar, who is also the president of the Professional Footballers Association of Malaysia (PFAM), said when compared with the other three candidates, Tunku Ismail, or TMJ as he is popularly known, is the best bet.
“The credibility that Tunku Ismail has in managing football is what makes him capable of leading the national football team to greater heights.
“So, if you ask me who is my pick, I will go with Tunku Ismail. He has proven himself with the football revolution he created in Johor. What he has done is exactly what is needed in modern football management,” Hairuddin told FMT.
Earlier today, it was reported that FAM had shortlisted the candidates vying for the president’s post down to four, based on the nominations received from affiliates.
The four – Tunku Ismail, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Mara chairman Annuar Musa and former Putrajaya Corporation president Aseh Che Mat – will be up for the vote to be held at the 51st FAM Congress on March 25.
Hairuddin did not deny however, that the other three candidates challenging Tunku Ismail, also had the potential to lead FAM.
The Terengganu captain said the incoming FAM president must be able to elaborate on his vision and plans to bring the necessary changes to football in the country.
“It is not a matter of just taking over the post. Anyone who wants the role must be able to develop football in the country in every aspect of the game.
“I will back any candidate who wants to bring about all-round development of football in the country,” Hairuddin said.
