KUALA TERENGGANU:
Some roads in three districts — Besut, Setiu and Hulu Terengganu — have been flooded and closed to traffic.

The Civil Defence Force has told people in Kuala Terengganu who wish to go to Kota Bharu to use the coastal route instead.

Its Terengganu director Lieutenant Col Che Adam A Rahman said traffic is closed to light vehicles in Besut, Jalan Seberang Jerteh/Pachakan at two locations: Kampung Beris Baru and Kampung Nangka-Kampung Lampu.

“Similarly with Jalan Bulatan Che Salmah/Kampung Raja and Jalan Jabi/Kampung Oh/Pasir Akar.

“Jalan Kuala Terengganu/Kota Bharu in Kampung Tok For and Kampung Lak Lok has also been closed to light vehicles while Jalan Jertih/Pasir Akar/Keruak in Kampung Jerubun, to all types of vehicle,” he said.

In Setiu, three roads are closed to light vehicles. They are Jalan Caluk/Bukit Putera, Jalan Pengkalan Merbau/Pelong and Jalan Permaisuri/Hulu Seladang.

In Hulu Terengganu, Jalan Bukit Perah/Kampung Jak/Kuala Kejir is closed to light vehicles while Jalan Matang/Nibong/Kuala Telemong is closed to all types of vehicles.

A total of 51 schools in Kelantan will be closed tomorrow due to the floods.

The state Education Department, in a statement tonight, said they comprised 19 schools in the Pasir Mas district, while the others are in Kota Bharu district (14), Tumpat district (eight), Pasir Puteh district (seven) and three in the Bachok district.

According to the statement, the schools would be closed as they are either inundated or submerged in water, the roads leading to the school are not passable and threaten the safety of students and teachers, or used as flood evacuation centres.
