Dismissing a party member’s claim that a PAS-PPBM alliance was becoming more unlikely following an allegation of a secret pact between DAP and PPBM, Iskandar Samad said even if it were true, it was merely an agreement between two parties.
Tunku Abdul Aziz Ibrahim, DAP’s former vice-chairman, recently alleged there was a secret pact between PPBM and DAP which will see Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s son, Mukhriz, become prime minister and DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang named as his deputy should Pakatan Harapan win the next general election (GE14).
Mahathir is PPBM’s chairman, while Mukhriz is the deputy president.
But Iskandar, who is also the PAS vice-president, said that such a pact would be difficult to realise as the forming of a government would need the consensus of various parties.
“In today’s political climate, no party or coalition can form a government based on private agreements. It requires greater cooperation.
“For the time being, PAS will still invite PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin and Mukhriz Mahathir to our programmes,” he said in a statement released today.
Yesterday, PAS’ research head Dr Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki said that an alliance between PAS and PPBM is becoming more unlikely following Tunku Abdul Aziz’s allegation.
PAS had previously sworn off cooperating with DAP following their fallout over hudud, while PPBM has been actively coaxing PAS to join forces to take on the Barisan Nasional in GE14.
Zuhdi said the party’s leadership was strongly against offering anyone from DAP a top post, such as the deputy prime minister or finance minister, should the opposition wrest Putrajaya from BN.
“This latest development comes as a shock to us and we are sure this will arrest any talk of cooperation between PAS and PPBM,” Zuhdi had said in a statement.
