PAS had previously sworn off cooperating with DAP following their fallout over hudud, while PPBM has been actively coaxing PAS to join forces to take on the Barisan Nasional in the impending general election.
In a statement, PAS’ research head Dr Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki said the party’s leadership was strongly against offering anyone from DAP a top post, such as the deputy prime minister or finance minister, should the opposition wrest Putrajaya from the BN.
“This latest development comes as a shock to us and we are sure this will arrest any talk of cooperation between PAS and PPBM.”
Zuhdi was responding to a claim by Tunku Abdul Aziz Ibrahim, DAP’s former vice-chairman.
Tunku Aziz had recently alleged there was a secret pact to appoint Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s son, Mukhriz, as the prime minister and DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang as his deputy if Pakatan Harapan wins the 14th general election.
Mahathir is PPBM’s chairman, while Mukhriz is the deputy president.
DAP, however, denied the allegation and said it never asked for the number two post.
Its political education director, Liew Chin Tong, said Mahathir and Lim only exchanged ideas on the economic situation, foreign direct investment, Sabah politics and Sarawak empowerment, among others.
Zuhdi said PAS had yet to decide about cooperating with PPBM.
“If the rumour is proven, PAS will not join forces with PPBM.”
Prior to this, PPBM had signed an agreement to work with Pakatan Harapan, which comprises PKR, DAP and Amanah.
