KUALA LUMPUR:
Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Annuar Musa said he had never used his position to influence Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) to sponsor the Kelantan football team also known as The Red Warriors (TRW).

Annuar, the former Kelantan Football Association (Kafa) president, said the decision to sponsor The Red Warriors was decided by the university.

“Every company has its own chairman, board of directors and management. The Mara chairman has no powers over any company under the Companies Act. They have their own board,” said Annuar when interviewed on Bernama News Channel (BNC) yesterday.

Annuar was accused of using his position as Mara chairman to influence Mara and UniKL to sponsor The Red Warriors.

Annuar had said TRW had never coerced sponsorship deals through force, threats, misappropriation or by decree, relying instead on commercial packages.

He said he would continue to assist Kafa in whatever way he could although he does not hold any position in the association.
