Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said the government was not discriminatory in implementing the RRC.
“I welcome Singapore’s decision (in not implementing the RRC, if Malaysia introduces the charge at the Thai border). As I said before, we are not discriminating against Singapore cars.
“We are introducing it across all our borders. So we will introduce it at the Thai border,” he told reporters here today.
He said this in response to Singapore’s latest decision that the republic is ready to withdraw the S$6.40 RRC for Malaysian cars entering Singapore if Malaysia also imposes the fee at other borders.
Earlier this month, Singapore announced that the RRC would be implemented from Feb 15, to mirror Malaysia’s RRC which started on Nov 1, 2016.
On the Malaysia-France bilateral seminar on High Speed Rail (HSR), Liow said it had provided an important platform for Malaysia to learn from the French on HSR.
“We welcome France’s interest in the HSR, especially the open tenders, because France has many technologies which it can offer us.
“So I think it’s good we look into the many alternatives from various countries,” he added.
