The Shah Alam MP was fined in lieu of three months’ jail after being found guilty last month over a talk he gave at a surau in Kapar six years ago.
Khalid insisted he was invited to the surau to speak about his trip to Palestine and not give a religious lecture.
“I returned from Gaza in 2011 and was invited to talk about my experience.”
Khalid, who was then Selangor PAS deputy commissioner, was charged with committing the offence at a surau in Taman Seri Sementa, Jalan Taman Seri Sementa on Aug 16, 2011.
Bernama had then reported that Khalid could be fined up to RM3,000 or a maximum jail term of two years, or both, upon conviction.
Khalid paid the fine, which could mean he risks losing his Shah Alam parliamentary seat.
Speaking to reporters later, Khalid addressed the possibility and said: “Maybe (will lose the seat). But we will file an appeal, so whether or not I will lose my MP post, will be known later.”
He said the appeal will be filed at the Shariah High Court tomorrow.
Khalid also questioned the verdict, insisting he only spoke about his experience in Palestine, a responsibility entrusted on him by Gaza President Ismail Haniyeh.
“The arguments laid out by the judge (Mohd Hairuddin Abd Rahim) made it seem as if what I said at the surau could bring about a big disaster to the public, and the country.
“This, I believe, is inaccurate and inappropriate as I did nothing wrong but to present what was trusted upon me.
“Hence, it goes back to the question of definition that needed to be refined, so laws like these cannot be abused.”
