The full MRT service will eventually take commuters from Sungei Buloh to Kajang (MRT-SBK).
For now the card cannot be used on phase 1 which spans the Sungai Buloh to Semantan stations. Phase 1 of MRT-SBK started operations on Dec 16 last year.
RapidRail chief executive officer Zohari Sulaiman said the card will be functional when the full integration of the MRT-SBK line is completed.
“Phase 2 of the MRT will be completed in July. Commuters will then be able to use their MyRapid cards with the stored value,” he told FMT.
FMT had previously reported that MRT users going cashless via their Touch ‘N Go cards will get discounts of up to 20% with the introduction of fares on Tuesday.
The MRT fares cost between RM1.20 and RM3.90. Students, senior citizens and persons with disabilities (OKU) pay half price.
The fare on feeder buses is RM1 per trip.
Prasarana media affairs head Azhar Ghazali urged commuters to take advantage of the park-and-ride facilities available at the Sungai Buloh, Kwasa Damansara, Kwasa Sentral, Bandar Utama and Pusat Bandar Damansara stations.
MRT operating times are from 6am to midnight on weekdays and 6am to 11.30pm on weekends.
The second phase of the MRT project, running from Semantan to Kajang and covering 19 stations, is scheduled to begin operations on July 31.
