He also announced an increased combined income eligibility of the homes from RM10,000 to RM15,000.
“We care about the people’s aspirations — poor or rich — their dream is to buy their first and own home.
“And through PR1MA, we want to do just that. Not only are we are creating opportunities to own affordable homes, we are transferring wealth in the form of properties to the rakyat,” Najib said.
Earlier, he feted the pioneer buyers and residents of the first PRIMA Community celebration in Sungai Petani 2 here this morning. Also present was Kedah Menteri Besar Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.
There are currently 2,700 units of PRIMA homes already built in Sungai Petani (SP), namely PR1MA Residence SP 1 and 2.
PR1MA is a statutory body incorporated under the PR1MA Act in 2012. They are tasked with building affordable homes nationwide with homes at least 20% less than market value.
Meanwhile, Najib said owning a PR1MA home would be made easier, through one-stop centres to handle financing, legal matters and balloting for new homes.
“This is part of the government’s measures taken to help prospective buyers closer to their dream home.
“As per my announcement in the Budget, we are working hard to ensure end-financing for buyers.
“While the eligibility for buyers has been increased by leaps and bounds, those initially rejected by banks will likely get their financing for their dream homes,” he said.
On a different note, Najib said PR1MA homes were value for money, as they offered quality homes valued at higher prices, but only charged half the price.
“For instance, a house at the PRIMA project in Sungai Petani might cost RM270,000, but the value is RM470,000.
“This shows the government is not skimping on quality but offering top-notch houses at affordable prices,” he said.
