Even when he was in prison, he used a string of fake names and with the help of a female accomplice on the outside, conned women into sending him nude photos and gifts.
He is to be released from the Canadian prison by the end of this month. Will he be sent back here?
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar told FMT yesterday: “We haven’t received any news from the foreign ministry, but we will check on it.”
Canada Border Services Agency has refused to confirm if Subbiah would be deported or returned to the streets of Toronto, reported Canada-based newspaper Toronto Star.
But a spokesman for the agency told the paper that serious criminals could be removed from Canada without appeal.
Canada’s immigration laws include criminal activity as a reason for inadmissibility but all convicted foreign nationals or permanent residents are still required to serve their sentence before they can be removed from Canada.
According toToronto Star, Subbiah’s scheduled release this month came with warnings from prison staff that he has a high risk to re-offend, or even kill.
It also cited a record of a parole hearing in June last year, where the case management team (CMT) said that therapy in prison had not done him much good.
“The CMT believes that you are likely to commit an offence causing death or serious harm to another person prior to the expiration of your (parole) and therefore, is recommending that your detention order be confirmed.
“File information indicates that you continue to struggle in the areas of victim empathy, remorse and your inability to take full responsibility for your personal choices which results in your lack of mitigation in risk,” the record was quoted by the daily.
Toronto Star also quoted one of Subbiah’s victims as saying that she couldn’t stop worrying about his impending release.
Reports stated that Subbiah’s modus operandi included adopting various identities, including as an agent for models, a movie talent scout, professional dancer, lawyer and diplomat.
He also drugged women with a drink, before raping his unconscious victims and taking photos of them naked.
Subbiah was sentenced to 24 years behind bars on Dec 21, 1992. He was convicted of 19 counts of sexual assault, 28 counts of administering a drug or noxious substance, 10 counts of various assaults and a dozen of other charges.

During his arrest in 1991, he was found with a black book containing the names of 170 women, rated from 0 to 10.
