Man dies after car crashes into PLUS maintenance lorry

Sales executive driving Proton Myvi loses control of car before hitting Propel lorry parked in emergency lane, say police.

A sales executive died after the car he was driving crashed into the rear of a Projek Penyelenggaraan Lebuhraya Berhad (Propel) lorry at KM334.6 of the North-South Highway (south bound), here yesterday.

Perak traffic investigation and enforcement department deputy chief DSP Mohd Mahiri Hussin said Loh Chun Xian, 26, died on the spot in the crash which occurred at 5pm.

The Perodua Myvi driven by Loh was believed to have lost control before crashing into the Propel lorry which was parked in the emergency lane to carry out road maintenance works.

The crash caused three Propel workers who were loading some maintenance items onto the lorry to sustain injuries, including broken arms and legs.

“The victim’s body was sent to Tapah Hospital,” Mahiri said adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of Road Transport Act 1987.

In Kuantan, a man died while his wife was seriously injured in an accident involving three vehicles at KM123 of Jalan Kuantan-Johor Bahru, near Rompin yesterday morning.

Rompin district police chief DSP Muhammad Aidil Roneh Abdullah said in the 11.05am incident, Mubim Sulong, 63, who was at the wheel of the Perodua Viva died on the spot, while his wife Rahmah Kasim, 57 sustained serious injuries.

The incident occurred when a van carrying three police personnel skidded to the left road shoulder, entered the opposite lane and rammed into the car driven by Mubim before spinning.

“While spinning, the front left part of the van grazed the right side of a four-wheel drive vehicle, causing the driver to lose control before crashing into the right side of the Perodua Viva,” he told Bernama.
