PETALING JAYA:
The organisers of the PAS Shariah Bill rally are seeking a meeting with Kuala Lumpur Mayor Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz after he rejected their proposal to hold the event at Dataran Merdeka.

The rally’s director, Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi, said he would meet Amin and appeal to hold the rally at Dataran Merdeka.

“We have sent our application and we will seek a meeting with Amin to have a discussion,” the PAS information chief told FMT.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man had announced last week that the rally will be held at Dataran Merdeka on Feb 18.

He said the rally was aimed at showing Muslims’ support for the bill, in addition to explaining to non-Muslims the proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965.

It was reported by a news portal that Amin had rejected the application by PAS and that there would be “no negotiations”.

Nasrudin said they had sent in their application for the rally a week ago to DBKL.

Asked about Amin’s proposal for PAS to hold the rally at Stadium Titiwangsa, he said: “Wait first, we don’t want to speculate yet. Let’s meet first, discuss and then we will see how.”
