Pahang mufti Abdul Rahman Osman said it was up to the former prime minister to say what he wants.

“I already expressed my views, which were based on my own knowledge,” he said when contacted by FMT.

“I don’t intend on fighting with him as that is not the right way. Let him say whatever he wants to.”

Rahman was responding to Mahathir’s latest blog post, where the 91-year-old insisted that only “apple polishers” will deem legal any money allegedly stolen by the government.

“Positions can’t correct views that are wrong. Thieves with positions are still thieves,” the 91-year-old said on his blog today.

Mahathir was defending his earlier statement that 1MDB-sponsored haj is not mabrur (complete or accepted by God).

Mahathir also questioned if haram (forbidden) money can be legalised by those with a mufti title.

He said it was up to the public if they insisted on accepting the money for haj pilgrimages.

“I wouldn’t accept it no matter what insults are thrown my way.”
