Man threatens cops with knife before being subdued

A man, suspected of being a drug trafficker and addict, threatened policemen with a knife before being subdued near Selama yesterday.

The 32-year-old was detained with nine packets of heroin and syabu weighing 71g beside the Kampung Baru Bukit Bertam-Tanjung Lengkong road.

Selama district police chief DSP Loo Lian Lay said the man was detained by a police team from the Narcotics Crime Division and CID here about 8.20am.

He said police had ordered the suspect to surrender but he took out a knife and warned he would stab them if they approached him.

“However, policemen managed to detain the suspect following a scuffle after he refused to surrender.

“On frisking the suspect, police discovered a plastic packet believed to contain 60g of heroin and eight plastic packets containing syabu weighing 11g in the suspect’s trousers pocket,” he said in a statement here today.

He said police also seized a Honda Civic car valued at RM40,000 and a Yamaha 125Z motorcycle worth RM6,000.

Loo said the suspect was also found to have tested positive for the methamphetamine drug and the case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 39A(1) of the same act.
