Deputy Federal Territories Minister Dr Loga Bala Mohan said the car park is ready, but DBKL was having a minor issue with acquiring the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC), which has replaced the Certificate of Fitness.
“We have to resolve a minor issue we have with Indah Water Konsortium and carry out some minor renovations,” he told reporters after handing out school goodies to students at SK (T) Vivekananda today.
Loga also said there were plans to turn the ground floor of the car park into a food court.
“This is to attract more people to the car park and we are in the midst of finalising the plans.
“We will be relocating 24 hawkers from around Brickfields to the food court.”
FMT had reported last year that business owners, residents and visitors to Brickfields were still waiting for the car park located at the junction of Jalan Thambipillay, opposite the Pos Malaysia office, to help reduce illegal and haphazard parking in the area.
The car park, supposed to be completed in March 2016, was built to address the illegal parking and bad traffic congestion in Jalan Tun Sambanthan.
There will be 327 parking bays for cars, including four for the disabled, and places to park 51 motorcycles.
The complex includes a community hall able to host functions for 500 people.
On another issue, Loga said those who want to use Dataran Merdeka will have to fulfil certain criteria.
“It’s up to Mayor Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz to give permission for the use of Dataran Merdeka. Any property that belongs to City Hall has rules.”
He was commenting on Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz saying PAS should be able to hold its shariah bill rally at Dataran Merdeka if the party received permission from City Hall and the police.
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man had announced the rally for Feb 18 at Dataran Merdeka.
The Islamist party is aiming to attract 300,000 people in a show of support for the proposed amendments to the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965.
Responding to PAS’ announcement, Amin had said PAS would not be allowed to hold the rally at Dataran Merdeka or Padang Merbok.
Loga said if the mayor had rejected the application for the use of Dataran Merdeka, it meant those concerned had not fulfilled the requirements.
