PETALING JAYA:
The two doctors involved in two botched circumcisions have been referred to the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).

Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam said the decision was made during the ministry’s post-Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Star Online reported.

Speaking during the launch of the angiography and angio-CT hybrid unit at Hospital Selayang, the minister said if the doctors were found to be professionally negligent, action could be taken against them.

On Dec 15, a nine-year-old boy had the tip of his penis severed in a circumcision at a private clinic in Jalan Ipoh.

Five days later, a 10-year-old boy also had the head of his penis severed during a botched laser circumcision at a clinic in Taman Cheras Utama.

The head of the penis was successfully reattached.

Subramaniam said the ministry’s Medical Practice Division would also investigate the doctors’ clinics to check if they had adequate facilities to carry out the surgeries.
