Kelantan Orang Asli Villages Network secretary (JKOAK) Jamali Ayu said the community was concerned continuous rain would result in mud flowing from areas that had been logged.

“We are on the alert as we are still traumatised by the muddy floods of 2014,” Jamali told FMT.

“For now, however, everything appears to be okay. The weather is however unpredictable; it rains for a while then stops.”

Nevertheless, Jamali urged the PAS-led state government to monitor the situation in Gua Musang as well as low-lying areas that had suffered floods.

To date, 6,011 people, of whom 2,181 were children and toddlers, have been evacuated in Kelantan because of floods.

Jamali also said despite the rain, the Orang Asli would continue with their blockade against the loggers.

“We are continuing with the blockade and we want to tell the Kelantan government that they have to come and talk to us, not just meet the village chiefs and the Department of Orang Asli Development (Jakoa).”

Logging, which began earlier this year, met with opposition from the Orang Asli, who set up blockades to prevent access to logging sites.
