PETALING JAYA:
The recent actions of a group who took a dangerous wefie on the emergency lane of the Penang Bridge has been roundly condemned on the Internet.

According to an AsiaOne report, a group of nine took a wefie on the bridge on Saturday, despite knowing the dangers of pulling such a stunt.

A picture of the group taking the wefie was posted on Facebook. In the picture, a motorcyclist is seen standing on the guardrail of the bridge, while the others pose on the emergency lane.

Some Facebook users pointed out that the motorcyclist could have fallen off the bridge and drowned if there had been strong winds, while others said a lot of effort would have been needed to save the motorcyclist if such a thing had happened.

In the report, George Town police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said although the group’s stunt was dangerous, it was not a criminal act, and no police report on the matter had been lodged.

In recent times, a number of fatal selfies have been reported around the world. Just yesterday, the Hindustan Times reported that a 21-year old engineering student in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu died after being hit by a train while taking a selfie.
