PETALING JAYA:
The fire at the Sultanah Aminah hospital which left six ICU patients dead was sparked by a capacitor in one of the ceiling lights, Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam revealed.

Subramaniam said this was based on reports submitted by the various authorities and from the commission formed to investigate the incident which occurred nearly two months ago in Johor, Star Online reported today.

“The fire was caused by a light capacitor which came into contact with some combustible materials lying underneath,” he was quoted as saying by the portal.

On Oct 25, a fire broke out just before 9am at the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU).

Of the victims, four were female, two were male.

It was initially believed that sparks from an electrical point on the wall had caused the fire.

The following day another fire broke out at the operation theatre in the emergency and trauma ward of the hospital, on the first floor. But that was quickly contained.
