This came after the media reported the Selangor Red Giants football team as saying it may withdraw from joining the Malaysian League (M-League) next season if the state government did not support FAS with RM15 million come the next season slated to begin Jan 21 next year.
Otai Reformis chairperson Saari Sungib, however, said the money was “critically” needed to fund other welfare programmes for the people.
“Otai Reformis supports Selangor Menteri Besar-cum-FAS president Azmin Ali’s stance to not give any more of the state’s money to FAS next season,” he said in a statement issued today.
He said Otai Reformis also agreed with Azmin that it was time for FAS to find its own funds.
Azmin did not make any mention of any funds for FAS when he tabled the state’s budget for 2017 last October, unlike in previous years.
It is not known whether Azmin, as president, had been given an account of how the RM23 million had been spent.
