Enclosed with the letter is a statutory declaration form, to be filled out and returned by Jan 20 to the secretariat for Invoke Malaysia’s Civil Servants Assets Declaration campaign, said Rafizi.
Invoke is an NGO started by Rafizi “to help progressive and pro-reform candidates win in future general elections”.
Rafizi also read excerpts from what he said was possibly the longest “love letter” the prime minister would ever receive.
“I urge Datuk Seri (Najib) to join me and Parit Buntar MP Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa in voluntarily declaring our assets using the same method.
“They can declare their assets in any manner they choose, provided they fill in the statutory declaration form and detail their expenses, income, assets and liabilities for 2016 and 2015 so that comparisons can be made,” he said at a press conference at Invoke Malaysia.
Rafizi said it was important that they sign the statutory declaration to prevent deception and the giving of false information.
Under the Statutory Declaration Act 1960, a false declaration is punishable under the Penal Code.
Rafizi said in a recent survey, 90% of respondents agreed that civil servants and politicians should be required to declare their assets.
Rafizi had declared his assets for the second time on Nov 30 and Mujahid followed suit on Dec 9.
Rafizi said copies of the letter were also sent to all MPs, ministers, menteris besar and chief ministers, assemblymen and state executive councillors in Pakatan Harapan and PAS administrations.
“The chief justice, Federal Court judges, the attorney-general, head of police, armed forces commanders, chief commissioners, secretaries-general of ministries and directors-general of public service agencies will also receive a copy each.”
He said he expected a response from all the recipients of the letter and the secretariat would be writing a report on who had declared their assets and who had not.
“On Feb 10, the names of those who responded to the call will be posted on www.invokemalaysia.org.”
Invoke Malaysia has appointed Zam Che Hamzah, a chartered accountant with 28 years’ experience, to head the secretariat in the campaign.
