GEORGE TOWN: Penang executive councillor Chow Kon Yeow should be referred to the Rights and Privileges Committee, Gerakan said, for allegedly giving inaccurate information at the state assembly on foreign-owned heritage properties.

Penang Gerakan Youth assistant secretary Loh Kit Mun said since Chow had admitted to not coming clean on the issue, he should be referred to the committee.

“He (Chow) gave misleading data at the state assembly. I urge all BN and Pakatan reps to refer him to the committee for giving wrong written replies.

“Inaccurate answers are tantamount to misleading the house. You are supposed to give correct answers so that proper check and balance can be carried out at the assembly,” Loh said in a press conference at the Gerakan headquarters here today.

Gerakan had recently questioned Chow on the differing numbers of heritage properties sold to foreigners.

Loh pointed out that Chow had said there were 18 units owned by foreigners, while Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng replied there were 61 units. The Gerakan man also questioned why data on foreign ownership for 2015 and 2016 was left out.

Chow replied in a statement that the 18 units he referred to were confined to Section 23 of the George Town World Heritage Site. He did not elaborate.

Section 23 of the Northeast district is one of eight areas which form the boundaries of the George Town World Heritage Site.

FMT is waiting for a response from Chow.
