PETALING JAYA:
Controversial cartoonist Zunar was arrested again by the police today.

Speaking to FMT, Dang Wangi CID chief M Gunalan said Zunar, whose real name is Zulkilflee Anwar Ulhaque, was detained during the “Tea with Zunar” fundraising event at the Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall today at about 3pm.

Zunar’s arrest comes barely a month after he was detained in Penang on 26 Nov for a breach of peace under the Penal Code and the Sedition Act.

Aside from Zunar, civil activist Lawrence Jeyaraj, DAP’s Jimmy Wong and two other guests were also arrested by the police.

They are now at the Dang Wangi police station.

Zunar’s lawyer, Nicole Tan, said Zunar and Lawrence are being investigated under Section 124 (c) for activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

Lawrence said police confiscated about 103 t-shirts and 1,211 books, which were put up for auction and sale.

“The police are taking our statement now. I’m not sure if they are going to hold us here overnight,” he said.

Zunar’s recent arrest in Penang came in the wake of an altercation at an exhibition of his drawings, where some 30 Penang Umno Youth members demanded he remove his artworks.

The Penang Umno Youth members said they found Zunar’s drawings to be offensive as it depicted the Prime Minister and other national leaders in a bad light. They then filed a police report against Zunar.
