Global Communication Center Kuala Lumpur (GCC) managing director Mustaqim Mustaza said the hikers, including Ahmad Nazit Rashid, who was reported suffering from hypothermia, was found near Kulit Manis 2 Camp.
GCC is the coordinator for the search and rescue operation.
“They were found at 3.30pm local time and reported to be safe, including Ahmad Nazir, whose condition is reported to be stable,” he told Bernama here today.
Mustaqim said efforts were now being made to bring the climbers to Puncak Angkasan, where they would join another search and rescue team and then would descend the mountain together.
The Indonesian authorities, through the Badan SAR Nasional (Basarnas), mounted a search for the Malaysian climbers soon after receiving a report that they were stranded on the mountain due to bad weather.
The Malaysian climbers, using the name “Kumpulan Ekspedisi Unity Trans-Lung 2016” left for Medan on Dec 1 and were reported to have arrived at the Jalur Kedah Base Camp on Mount Leuser the next day after 20 hours of travelling by land through hilly areas of Tanah Karo from Medan.
After a week of climbing, the group arrived at Bipak Kaleng Camp at an altitude of 2,972 metres and in bad weather.
