Rompin police chief DSP Muhammad Aidil Roneh Abdullah said the suspect worked as an assistant in a grocery store.
He had earlier taken the body to his workplace, about 14 hours before making the police report.
“The suspect claimed the body was found wrapped in a white cloth while he was searching for a fishing spot at the dam alone at 8am yesterday,” Aidil said.
He said further investigations revealed, however, that the suspect had taken the dead baby from his girlfriend’s house in Pontian Jaya, Rompin.
The 18-year-old female was arrested at 11.10pm yesterday, in front of a fast food restaurant where she worked.
“The suspect (teenager) confessed to aborting the baby on Tuesday, after taking medicines purchased online, worth RM500.”
He said the body of the baby was sent to the Rompin Hospital for a post-mortem.
The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing the birth of a child, which carries a maximum jail sentence of two years, or a fine, or both, if convicted.
