Three of the suspects, including a woman, were arrested during a raid at a home in Bandar Utama in Sungei Petani. The woman was allegedly in the midst of packing the drugs for distribution when police ambushed the drug trafficking operations.
Police confiscated 3,450 psychotropic pills, 800 types of methamphetamine pills and 5.41 grams of syabu and jewellery worth RM4,500.
Following the first arrests, officers from the Narcotics Department of Kedah police headquarters launched another ambush at a petrol station in Lunas, near Kulim.
Police seized 9,030 psychotropic pills, 58 methamphetamine pills and RM25,000 during a search on a Nissan X-Trail.
A man and a woman were arrested. Both are believed to be Rohingya refugees, and suspected drug dealers in Kulim.
Kedah police chief Abdul Jalil Hassan said the five suspects, aged between 25 and 42, were found to be illegal immigrants and holding fake UNHCR cards.
“The situation is very intense especially when it comes to the recent issue with Myanmar and the Rohingyas, but they come here to become drug dealers.
“They should come here to earn a living and not become drug dealers, so they are an utter disgrace to their homeland,” Jalil was quoted as saying by Awani, at a press conference in Alor Star yesterday.
The suspects were remanded for five days to facilitate investigations.
