Teen pleads not guilty to impersonating Johor royalty

The Singaporean teenager was arrested on Aug 6 at a garment shop in Plaza Angsana, Tampoi.

A 15-year-old Singaporean pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here today to a charge of impersonating the Johor Sultan’s grandson at a garment shop in Plaza Angsana, Tampoi in August.

The teenager was arrested on Aug 6 at 4.30pm at the outlet for allegedly committing the offence.

The proceeding before magistrate Salina Omar was held behind closed doors as the accused was a juvenile.

When met after the proceeding, deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Syafiq Mohd Ghazali said the accused pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out to him.

He said the accused was allowed bail of RM4,000 in two sureties and the court set Jan 5, 2017 for case mention.

Meanwhile, the teenager’s counsel, Muhammad Ashraff Mohd Diah, said his client was the third child of five siblings and was schooling in Singapore.

The accused faces a jail term or a fine, or both, if found guilty.
