“We agree to have all of the party’s MPs, state assemblypersons and those in the (Opposition-led) state governments declare their assets.
“This has already been done in Penang, but maybe this practice should be widened and implemented in other states too,” he said in his winding up speech at the DAP national conference here today.
Lim was responding to a proposal brought forward by Edry Faizal, a delegate from DAP’s Bandar Utama branch.
Edry made the motion earlier in the day, saying that by declaring their assets, DAP could set itself apart from Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders, who have been accused of rampant corruption.
“Prove to the Rakyat that we have nothing to hide, unlike BN,” he said.
Similar calls were made by PKR lawmaker Rafizi Ramli who last month declared his assets to the public.
On a separate matter, Lim, gearing up for the 14th General Election which Prime Minister Najib Razak hinted may take place soon, promised more autonomy to Sabah and Sarawak.
He said the only way the opposition could become the government was if it could secure the support of the two states.
“We have to fight for Sabah and Sarawak that are very important in our quest to take over Putrajaya. Our win, or our defeat, relies on them.
“We can’t forget how important they are and from the feedback we have received (from the two states) we realised that many are asking for the return of their autonomy,” Lim said, adding there was a need for a “New Deal” for Sabah and Sarawak.
“A New Deal that recognises Sabah and Sarawak’s equal partner status, to decentralise powers and provide more tax revenue to the states.”
