PETALING JAYA:
A DAP grassroots leader has quit the party citing his loss of confidence in the party leadership, especially Lim Kit Siang.

Shamsher Singh Thind, a delegate of the DAP’s Chai Leng Park branch, said Kit Siang could no longer be trusted since he was now willing to work with former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

“I could write a thesis on the nature and extent of the allegations that Kit Siang and other prominent opposition leaders have made against Dr Mahathir and Muhyiddin in the past.

“From what I see, either Kit Siang lied about Dr Mahathir and Muhyiddin, or he has no problem working hand-in-hand with those who abused their powers and who were corrupt in the past.

“Whichever view is adopted, the point that I want to prove is that Kit Siang has lost his credibility,” he said, asking if Lim would someday end up working with Najib as well to topple yet another PM.

“If it is acceptable to work with Mahathir to topple Najib then I am sure Kit Siang will have no problem in working with Najib to topple the prime minister in the future.”

He also took to task PKR and DAP’s lack of cooperation during the Sarawak election held earlier this year.

“According to Clause 5 of the Pakatan Harapan Agreement, the Presidential Council is given the power to make a final decision to decide whose candidate will contest in any particular constituency during an election, in the event the parties are unable to reach an agreement.

“However, the Presidential Council failed to make the final decision and as a direct result both PKR and DAP contested against each other in six state seats during the Sarawak Election.

“If Pakatan leaders were unable to make a simple decision, which was very much within their powers, then what can they do for Malaysia?”

In a Penang DAP’s annual delegates’ conference last month, Shamsher questioned DAP leaders regarding their cooperation with Mahathir and Muhyiddin.

He also quoted the Aesop fable ‘The Farmer and the Viper’, about a person bitten by a serpent that he helped nurse back to health. Shamsher then likened the serpent to Mahathir.

“The response that I got was in a form of a bizarre question. I was asked that if Kit Siang, who suffered so much at the hands of Dr Mahathir, was willing to set aside his differences and work together for the betterment of the nation, then what seems to be my problem?

“I was dumbfounded when I heard this question. Dr Mahathir has not done anything to me personally, so why should I bother?

“Likewise, Najib has also not done anything to me personally, why should I also bother?”
