According to a report in The Star Online, Liow in response to Jasin MP Ahmad Hamzah’s proposal, said Umno leaders were free to voice their views but the BN had a mechanism to decide on these matters.
Yesterday, at the Umno general assembly, Ahmad Hamzah proposed that the transport portfolio, traditionally reserved for MCA, be given to someone from Umno instead as there were many Umno leaders qualified for the post.
Meanwhile, Jasin MCA Youth secretary Eric Choo in responding to Ahmad Hamzah, said he agreed with the Jasin MP’s statement that Cabinet positions should be based on merit.
Choo, who is also MCA Youth’s Young Professionals and Varsity Students’ Affairs bureau chairman, praised prime minister Najib Razak for previously appointing the experienced Idris Jala and Wahid Omar to lead key government agencies like Pemandu and the Economic Planning Unit.
“In view of that, we are of the opinion that there are many ministries which should be led by MCA given its track record such as the Finance Ministry, Tourism and Culture Ministry, Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry and the Health Ministry, given how these ministries have thrived when they were headed by MCA.”
